The first time I heard this I about fell off my chair...

You see, I was raised Catholic. While I walked away from the Church and spent years not practicing, I had NEVER heard anyone say this until after my conversion back home to the Church!

What a funny concept. How can Catholics NOT be Christian….?!

When I hear this it just tells me that the one saying is not yet aware of the true history of Christianity.

Catholics are the only ones who can actually trace their roots back to Jesus Himself!

(Even Google knows this is true. Seriously, try Googling who founded the Catholic Church.)

Catholics are indeed the first Christians!

We actually historically trace our founding through Apostolic succession back to the moment when Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven.

He says:

“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

[Matthew 16:18-19]

He changes Peter’s name from Simon to Peter “Cephas” (which means Rock!). Whenever God does this in Scripture you know something BIG is happening.

Everything we do as Catholics is led and guided by Christ Himself. Everything we do finds its roots in Sacred Scripture and Tradition. Tradition just means what the earliest Christians were doing—both in Scripture and in the early Church. You can actually read the writings from the earliest Christians about what they did and how they worshipped.

Spoiler: They had the Eucharist!!
