We want the results without the effort.
We want the blessings without the discipline.
We want what takes years of consistency in the snap of a finger.
A kind of “just add water” sorta living.
We want a cultivated garden in an afternoon.
We want to master a new skill over a weekend.
We want a killer bod in a few weeks.
We want to change the world with a tweet or an IG post.
But this isn’t the way.
The way is work.
It’s effort.
It’s discipline.
It’s consistency.
It’s not sexy or sleek.
It’s work.
Real work.
It’s grit.
But that’s life.
The long faithfulness in the same direction.
For those who follow Jesus, the virtues are much the same.
We don’t just kill our greed and lust and anger and selfishness in an afternoon, or by resharing a post.
We pursue Jesus, His way of love, for a long time.
And we grow.
We develop.
We work out our salvation.
We, with the Spirit, cultivate love, joy, peace, patience…
It’s a walking, uphill, ascending to a summit -
There are no shortcuts and there is no other way.
The curse of our time is no one wants to put in the work.
