ICXC

Here’s some background for you on the hand symbol :

The ICXC stand for the initials in Jesus’ name ( in Greek ) - first and last letters of each word :

IHCOYC XPICTOC

On top of the symbolization of the intials of Jesus, there’s some other doctrinal stuff being conveyed.

The three fingers used to make the I and the C ( first letters of each name ) - represent the Trinity.

A unity of one God in three Persons.

The thumb and ring finger coming together represents the the Incarnation.

Namely, the hypostatic union of divine and human nature’s in the one person of Jesus Christ.

NIKA

This word has often showed up alongside ICXC in history - it’s on some coins ( with a cross ) and icons of Christ.

Nika is a Greek word which means “conquers” and has a direct bearing, in this usage, to the victory of the Cross.

The idea is the conquest of Hades and the victory over death and sin and the powers.

All together, this means :

Jesus Christ Conquers.

Pretty awesome right ?

And so, by display the historic church remembers and honours the victory of Jesus.

And so too should we.

In our living and loving.

In all we do.
